My approach

I tailor my support to your needs. Everyone is unique, so I draw on a range of different types of therapy to develop a response that's bespoke to you. I focus on you as a person, rather than focusing on a specific label or symptom. And I create a nurturing environment through empathy and compassion.

Building a strong and trusted relationship is key to us working collaboratively to explore the here and now, past relationships and desired changes for the future.

I work with young people (16+) and adults, both as individuals and couples / other configurations.

Key areas of work include:

addictions; abuse; anxiety; compulsive sexual behaviour; depression; grief; loss; low self-esteem, relationship difficulties; menopause; loneliness; trauma; identity and suicidal thoughts.

Sessions are usually 50 minutes on a weekly basis and are either face-to-face, online via Zoom or by telephone. If you would like to know more about online and telephone therapy click here.

I work with clients both short term and for longer periods. We will take regular reviews of our work together and assess if longer work will be supportive or needed.

Individual therapy

Individual therapy provides you with dedicated time and support to focus on you and your needs, see new perspectives, explore new ways of being and ways of relating to others.

For the best results in therapy it’s important to find someone you’re comfortable working with. Your relationship with your therapist will be unlike any other and it is important to spend time finding someone you feel comfortable with. With that in mind, it’s best to start with an initial conversation to get a sense of what you are seeking from therapy. This allows you to get to know me and whether you would like to work together. I offer a free 20-minute telephone session to give you the opportunity to decide whether I am the right counsellor for you.

We can then book our first session.
Sessions last 50 minutes and initially are every week, usually at the same time. Over time, some clients move to either fortnightly or monthly sessions, but this is always discussed and agreed together.

Relationship therapy: couples / other configurations

It is not unusual to seek counselling to support your relationship; all relationships come under stress and strain. We often feel that we don’t have the time to deal with issues or face up to our problems, hoping that time will heal the issue.

Relationship counselling can help to identify what the issues are and allows all parties to express themselves in a safe and non-judgmental place.  Working with a therapist provides an impartial mediator, aiming to help you to communicate more effectively, helping you to feel understood and able to connect to each other another.

If you are interested in relationship therapy, we would begin with an initial telephone conversation – giving us the opportunity to talk through the therapy I offer and assess if I am the best person for you to work with (if I am not, then I will help you find the right person).

We can then book our first session.
Sessions last 60 minutes and initially are every week, usually at the same time. Over time, some clients move to either fortnightly or monthly sessions, but this is always discussed and agreed together.
