Online, phone or face-to-face
Personal therapy is effective and transformative for those who are able to access it, I offer a choice of online, telephone or face-to-face sessions, depending on your preference and circumstances.
Face-to-face
I have a relaxing, comfortable room at Unity Business Centre , Roundhay Road, LS7. The building has wheelchair access and a lift. There’s plenty of free parking directly outside.
Online and phone
I offer counselling and psychotherapy using secure video conferencing (Zoom) and phone. There are many reasons working in this way appeals to clients.
These are some of the wider benefits to online / phone counselling:
No need to travel – not having to travel saves you time and is cheaper and more convenient
Comfort – work from the comfort and security of your own home, with no need to think about what to wear
A wider range of therapists to choose from – access a wider range of therapists, including specialists who may not be available in your location.
Sanctuary – it's common to feel a range of emotions after a session. Having your session in your own home means you don’t need to step into the outside world whilst you are still processing your session.
Accessibility – using the telephone or online software can allow you to be supported with additional technology such as speech to text software, instant chat and audio enhancers. This can enhance and improve the effectiveness of the counselling experience.
Weather – there are times when the weather makes us want to stay indoors or can limit travel completely. This is not an issue when working online or by phone.
Privacy – many people are not comfortable sharing that they are working with a therapist. Working online or by phone removes the anxiety clients may face about seeing someone as they arrive or leave their therapist’s office.
Time & Flexibility – save time travelling, allowing greater flexibility and a wider range of appointment times to suit you.
Things to consider:
If your home is not a safe environment or you struggle for privacy, is there anywhere else you can go? We can discuss suggestions that could work for you to ensure your safety and privacy are protected.
Confidentiality is key in the work between therapist and client. I ensure that I cannot be overheard or disturbed when I’m working online. It is important clients also maintain confidentiality at their end. This may involve scheduling sessions for when you are home alone, or using headphones to help ensure the conversation is more private and less likely to be fully overheard.
When working together by telephone I may ask more questions than I would face-to-face or online. I do this to check I’m fully understanding the situation, your feelings and emotions. Not being able to see clients removes the visual signs I would normally tune into through the body language shared in the therapy room. However, I have found working by telephone enhances our ability to listen and ensure you feel understood and heard. For me this has proved to be key in developing the relationship and depth of each encounter by telephone: the therapeutic relationship is as strong and deep as the relationship I have with clients face-to-face.
