A little bit about me…

I’m a qualified psychotherapist and an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), a professional association for members of the counselling professions in the UK.

Before becoming a therapist I was a secondary school teacher for 18 years. I loved being a teacher, working with students aged 11 – 19. Being part of such a transformational era in their lives, was a very fulfilling and rewarding experience.

Throughout my life I have had times when I reached out for therapy, to help me work through a difficult time or explore challenges I faced in relationships. Having worked with a number of wonderful therapists in my time and knowing the impact they had on my life, I decided this was a field I wanted to move into.

I support a number of local community groups. In the past I’ve volunteered for MENCAP, supporting adults with learning disabilities. I've previously worked as a student mentor and school counsellor for an Academy Trust. I set up a community group for women in my local area.

For over two years I worked as a volunteer counsellor at Foundation Harrogate.

All of these roles relied on building successful relationships, trust and collaboration, and this is something that is strongly reflected in my therapy work.

Outside of work

Outside of work, I’m a married mum of two who is creative, passionate, curious, warm and funny.

I enjoy walking my dog and spending time with family and friends and when possible spending time on the North Yorkshire coast. I've lived and worked in Leeds for the last 30 years, but originally I’m from the North East.

Ongoing professional development

I'm dedicated and passionate about continually improving my counselling skills and knowledge. In accordance with the BACP’s guidelines I work closely with a supervisor each month. This is designed to allow therapists to continue to learn and evolve their approach.

I have a very close relationship with my supervisor, which helps me continue to grow as a therapist. It is a very dynamic relationship that makes sure I’m working in the best possible way for my clients.

I have also co-founded a psychotherapy network focused on professional development and sharing best practice. The psychotherapy network allows me to stay connected with my peers and colleagues. We meet regularly and discuss relevant topics relating to the field, share research and literature focused on psychotherapy and mental health and wellbeing. The network gives me a wide pool of knowledge and expertise to draw on and many therapists I can use for referrals.

Along with this I attend regular training course and events throughout the year to make sure I stay at the forefront of the latest practices and research.

You can see more information about my qualifications and training here.
